Vanessa's Bridal Session...
I wanted to share these images for some time now. These were taken in mid Nov '07 at the Portofino Shopping Center in The Woodlands (TX). It's a beautifully kept "Mediterranean-style" shopping center full of various stores just along Interstate 45 access road (north of Research Forest Dr.). We kept the session a secret to ensure the groom-to-be (now husband) did not 'accidentally' see the bride's dress prior to the wedding. :)

Elijah..An 8 Year Old Hero...
I'm a wedding photographer. It's a genre I love to do. Why? Simple. It's such a sacred and beautiful event. Each one I've covered has been very special to me. An honor to just be a part of. But recently, I had an even greater opportunity. And it came packaged in a lively little Bay City (Texas), 8 year old child, Elijah. He and his wonderful family are survivors of cancer and I had the great honor of capturing their photos for an assigment. Fortunately for Elijah, his family discovered the condition early and were able to start treatment. Now, he's a healthy, typical kid. Full of love, joy and wisdom despite his young age. With the help of his loving mother and father, he's also become a spokesman for a cause that heightens awareness of people about cancer.
Now my post today is not for people to feel sorry for the family. But actually, it's a post for people reading to remember to love and support each other. Do not give up. There is always hope despite how bad your current situation may be.
When I looked into this little boys eyes, it is filled with both innocence and bravery. It just gave me such a positive charge...

Kelly's Bridal Session...
It's been awhile so I'm just gonna jump right in! Thanks to my good friend, Tim, I had the pleasure of meeting a beautiful young lady named Kelly. After some planning and a few invites to some fellow photographer friends, we ended up having a wonderful session around Market Street in The Woodlands that evening...

Surviving The Holidays...
Wow! Been awhile since my last entry. Busy..Busy...Busy... Hope everyone survived Thanksgiving and 'Black Friday'. I can't believe I actually got up at 3:30am just to go shopping. If you're willing to brave the tons of people out there, it sure is a great time to really stretch that dollar out. But I'm so relieved I only do that once a year. THOSE PEOPLE ARE CRAZYYYY!!!
Anyway, had another bridal session last weekend. This time around Market Street (The Woodlands). Just finished processing the images. Stay tuned as I'll be posting those very soon.

Portofino Shopping Center bridal session...
Had a wonderful bridal session yesterday at the Portofino Shopping Center located just north of Research Forest Dr and I-45N in The Woodlands. Great location! Beautiful structures and lots of stores and restaurants. Management staff was so great to communicate with and obtain permission to shoot on their property.
I may post a teaser shot or two from this bridal session but the rest will have to wait until after the wedding day. Never know if that groom-to-be maybe looking... :)

Keep It Simple...
As the saying goes...beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. As a photographer, my eyes tend to be drawn to things that many people simply pass by. I know... I'm a little weird but I can't help it. I see things and constantly think to myself, hmmm...angle of light, crop possibilities, how do I capture this or that moment... And as a self-proclaimed minimalist, this particular image just stood out to me while I was walking around The Woodlands. A simple brick lined street shot from a low angle perspective...

The Musicians...
In an emotionally saturated event like weddings, musicians have that special gift of enhancing all those special feelings. Though photographers work with a different medium: visual versus sound. The ultimate goal is the same. To help everyone in attendance associate and secure all those joyous feelings so they can reflect and experience them all over again at a later date...
All images taken with Nikon D1x with lenses varying from 24mm F2.8D & 80-200mm F2.8D ED. Decided to go with a 'classic' b&w processing on the first two and left the last two as is.

Fine Tuning The Past...
Probably should have titled this..."Continued from yesterday". As with many people in photography (or any art form), professional or hobbyist, we tend to be our worst critics. We capture an image we truly love...but later, we still develop a great urge to come back and try to tweak & 'enhance' it. At least, I know I do...We'll being true to my nature, I had to go back and enhance images that I already enjoy currently. Just to give it a little more emotional impact...or pop... or something. Again, it's processing that not everyone will be into but I really enjoy that desaturated/chrome look (which reminds me...note to self: watch the movie 300 again). Anyways, I tried not to be as 'heavy handed' on the processing as my previous post.

Continuing to Grow...
Had an interesting conversation with a fellow photographer the other day regarding developing and continuing to grow as an artist. A very talented artist from the NW Houston area. If anyone is interested in seeing some of her work, look for "My 3 Peas Photography" under my LINKS I LOVE TO VISIT.
We agreed that as with anything else, in order for one to continue to grow, one has to be willing to actively apply knowledge acquired over time. Meaning one be willing to step out of our own comfort zone, and experiment with that knowledge. Even if the results are not always favorable. Now, I would hardly classify myself an artist but it did remind me of a couple of my own trials. Whether I always found this look to be very interesting or I simply watched the movie 300 way too often...who knows.

Family Connections...
Regardless of age, there is a natural beauty that occurs when children and adults interact. Possibly due to an increase in the child's sense of security & comfort to allow a sometimes hidden personality really shine. A visible loving connection.
